Self-Love Is Self-Care

Everybody’s Free To Wear Sunscreen – Bazz Luhrman

In the past year I had been working and writing for a website of a popular online community for Indian Mothers(details in the footnote here). Through them, I had an opportunity to write on the topic of ‘Self-Love’.

It made me think of the things I do(knowingly or unknowingly) that help me practise self-love.
I came up with a list!
And I’m gonna explain this list with the help of THE TOP THING I surround myself with to feel good – MUSIC.
Below each point, I’m gonna put a line in “quotes” from the lyrics of one of my favourite feel good songs – “Everybody Is Free To Wear Sunscreen” by Bazz Luhrmann. The lyrics sound casual and deep at the same time. It’s silly and cute. If you get nothing else from this piece, you will, at the very least, have listened to a cool and unique song by the end of it. 😉

So here goes…

I practice Self-Love when I am…

1.  Wearing sunscreen
Coz better skin, better mood.
“Science”(yup those are the lyrics)

2. Being kind to myself and to others
For there ain’t nobody who can hate themselves for being kind.
“Don’t be wreckless with other people’s hearts, Don’t put up with people who are wreckless with yours”

3. Not worrying about tomorrow –
“Worrying is as effective as trying to solve an algebra equation by chewing bubble gum”
(yup…lyrics of the song,again)

4. Karaoke-ing my heart out
Bcoz …really? Do we need a reason?
“Sing”

5. Focusing on the good
“Remember the compliments you receive. Forget the insults. If you succeed in doing this, tell me how!”

6. Taking an early morning stroll in the park and stretching my tired body
“Stretch”

7. Not feeling guilty about not knowing what I want to be when I grow up
“Some of the most interesting 40 year olds I know still don’t”

8. Eating Calcium
Women need it more than you’d think.
“Be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone”
(lol….the singer doesn’t sugarcoat anything)

9. Not judging others
Coz when you accept others, you are also more accepting of yourself
“Your choices are half chance. So are everybody else’s”

10. Dancing
I’m better when I’m dancing
“Dance”
