Meaningful Silence

It’s the way of the world,
The ones who speak up are seen,
But the silent ones are truly heard.
We’re all curious creatures,
So it is natural to lean,
Towards the draw of someone’s rarely spoken words.

When a good listener speaks,
We pay attention to the energy of their words,
Their importance characterised by the weight that they carry, when spoken from a mouth that had, all this while, kept them conserved.

Silences are heavy – they convey much more than you could ever say,
In love, with soft demeanour, they fondness portray,
In annoyance, they keep damaging arguments at bay,
In betrayal, they heal by the dignity you thus display,
In life, they help you absorb wisdom that always stays.

Hold them close- your thoughts,
They’re not meant for everyone,
Utter them with kindness when necessary,
Only when you know well it could benefit someone.

Your thoughts are your friends,
Your opinions, they may change,
They will all, over time, come and go like the rain.
Your words are your treasure,
Don’t pass them on like loose change,
Because, in life, only meaningful silence will bring you true gain.
